Though we grieve the death of Carter, we know that he loved Jesus and was a believer.   It gives us hope that we will one day be reunited with Carter.  As Paul writes (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14), "We want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.  For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who had died."  Our parting is not the end of our relationship with Carter, only an interruption.  We have not "lost" Carter, because we know where he is.  He is experiencing the joy of Christ's presence in a place so wonderful that Christ called it paradise.

Father, comfort us with the knowledge that we will one day be with You and with our Savior, Jesus.  We praise You that we will be reunited with Carter, and family and friends who know You, and have gone before us into Your presence.  Remind us of Your promise of no more death or mourning or crying or pain.  Remind us daily that You will wipe every tear from our eyes.  Help us to find precious hope in Your vow to make everything new and in Your assurance that Your words are trustworthy and true.  We look forward to our homecoming and the Great Reunion!  Amen.
